The idea behind this is the strangeness of food and perhaps a comment on our approach to food. The dangers of fast and processed foods are no secret to any of us, but despite the looming health implications associated with these foods we continue to indulge. Realistically, and I am speaking for myself as well, as long as the food tastes good the chances of our feeling bad or reconsidering our diets are pretty low. So what I present and attempted to render are examples of the clash between what we should and what we do eat, and also what I think is a decent concept of our dieting rationale. It's the healthy choice, but with a little bit of the good stuff. Like eating a Hagen-Daas bar after a run or buttering the pan before you make bacon.

so placement of the subjects, I had a bit of a tough time organizing my negative and positive space in these. I think each photo is in its own way successful in gathering the viewer's attention, although I would not say that any of these shots, in my opinion, were 100% aesthetically pleasing or "correct". I do have to say that I believe I shot color faithfully, or as faithfully as I can, and that the subject matter is intriguing.

I like the Idea for this shoot. I like how you altered the idea of the food by simply replacing certain components to there structure: making them recognizable yet completely altered. The First image is my favorite but I would like to see it brightened up a little.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I don’t like the third – particularly – is because I feel that the orange’s shape, and the way you altered it, already implies what it represents. (Which is the burger) The bread is almost unnecessary.
I don’t know how I feel about the pepper top being in the shot, however I do recognize that it creates visual interest. The pepper as a substitute for the case is actually my favorite part of the photo: my eye was immediately drawn to it and it effectively compliments the color scheme of McDonalds.
(I am going to be “that guy” and make a suggestion that would take a lot of effort and be completely annoying. What if instead of a plain background you have a child in the background – in a McDonalds preferable, although almost impossible – looking at the food in disbelief, disgust or wailing like a baby – better if the individual is a baby for the last one)
Sorry for that last one…
I do like the shoot and idea though, nice job ;D
i quite love this still life! it's a bit snarky and makes you really look. my favourite set-up is the first photo, everything about it. i do feel like you might need a little more negative space, perhaps shoot from farther away. i don't know why, but that top orange slice throws me off, because nothing is placed there. i feel like i should see some of that shredded mcd lettuce/mayo combo seeping out, for a little more colour to truly brighten the image. a bit of contrast would also add some quality depth to the photo. x
ReplyDeleteI agree with Carrie, I like the set up of the first photo and it's overall impression the best. Along the same lines as Nathan, perhaps if you removed the top of the pepper and then added an extra element (that could symbolize the drink? you know the classic cups with straw) it would add some variation? Really your artistic idea comes into play with that one.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Nathan's idea of changing the background, I think your plain background is fine for throwing the focus on the food, however you can always play with coloured backgrounds. I would love to see a yellow background or something crazy other than our preference for white and/or black haha. (I'm a great victim of that too!)
Other than that, well done! Fabulous idea!
My favorite picture is the 2nd one. I think because I like the space between the pepper and the orange. I love the concept, I would like a bit more brightness in the picture though.
ReplyDeleteSo awesome.

Great idea! I think I like the first one best but I really like the second one too. My only suggestions would to maybe play around with different backgrounds or something. I like Nathan's idea of bringing it to a McDonalds and I think that would be really cool too.

Great idea! My eye was immediately drawn to the second one because of the space between the objects! But all of the photos are amazing! Great job!!
