Jes Cervoni - Fantasy

I wanted to depict the idea of reliving a fantasy. A particular one for me was going to Europe, which I was able to do last summer. The image is made up of two photos, one that I took in Paris, and another taken here in Toronto with a plane in the sky. It is inspired by Isabel Martinez's photos. Website: http://www.immartinez.com/

I was hoping to get the same kind of shadowing effect that she has from her cut pieces by printing out each photo individually, cutting the strips myself, placing them on top of the other photo and then shoot the finished print. If anyone might know of a different way I could create this effect without ruining the quality of my image it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. This is really interesting Jess!

I love the combination of the photos portrayed through lines. I'm not sure if one is black and white? But it works really well.

Unfortunately, for the second one, quality is an obvious problem, lol. I'll probably have to rescan the negative.

  2. I can't wait to see this one printed.

Every time I look at this image my eye wanders all over the place. It definitely keeps the attention. The plane, the red from the Europe image, the dark portion of the image (Europe) at the top combined with the building (Toronto) create a cross point of interest as well; all of which force attention.

    Really nice.

  3. The really bright green something middle left of the frame holds my eye once it hits it. Maybe tone it down or shop it out, I think that'll be something that stands out even more printed as well. Other than that, awesome stuff!

  5. Isabel M. Martinez!! I used her as inspiration for a project last year too!

This is a really amazing photo! My eye keeps moving between the images, trying to fill in the blanks. It keeps me interested!
