Mithila Majithia -- Theme 1: Fast Food.
Hey everyone,
Apologies for the lateness, I thought I scheduled this to post in the afternoon but I guess that didn't work.
I decided to keep it pretty simple and take a look at the literal link between consumption and consumerism within the concept of 'fast' food. I'm pretty sure we've all chowed down on a burger at some point and know exactly how it feels to just want to eat without paying any regard to the downsides of fast food.
Thanks,
Mithila.

Tyler Webb - Fast Food Theme
Hey All!
So I love playing with speed lights and doing high speed photography. The 'fast' food pun in that might be a little too much to handle, but I wanted to stay as far away from the 'fast food kills us' theme as possible and be more playful with it.
I'm not sure which composition I like. I like the vertical emphasis of the second shot, but I think it's too closely cropped compared to the first shot. And the fact that the sprinkle donut isn't totally in focus bugs me.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

My photo was inspired by Ai Weiwei's photo below. Ai Weiwei is an outspoken and controversial Chinese artist and activist. My "fast food" photo gives McDonalds and fast food the finger, while still acknowledging our own guilt and gluttony.
It worked better in my head. I'll probably reshoot. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Claire Harvie, Theme #1, Fast Food
The Orange Julep
This theme got me thinking about fast food as a 'dining experience', and about the physical buildings that cater to a late-night craving, or serve as refuge from a long, cramped, family road trip. This delightfully absurd restaurant/orb is somewhat of a Montreal landmark. The Orange Julep...it's an orange! Famous for its creamy, orange (pretty gross) juice 'beverage', I enjoy how the exterior closely resembles the artificial quality/colour/texture of fast food & fast food packaging. The mostly deserted parking lot and the coloured flags add a bit of nostalgia for a time when this place was a crowded '50s hotspot, with waitresses in rollerskates cheerfully delivering a hot-dog stimé to the window of your car. For more nutritional information:

As for the image, I'm still fidgeting with levels and saturation and colour balancing... input of all kinds please :)

BGRANATA
As real as fast food gets.
Paper…? Probably has a greater nutritional value then most
of the fast food we consume. might as well enjoy it like this.

This is the photo for the fast food theme. The dirt covering the fries represents McDonald's for what it truly is- terrible for you. Therefore is the equivalent to eating dirt.

I decided to use a slow shutter speed during darker hours to make the lights stand out more. For example, the bright lights next to the building are the cars in the driveway.
I overlapped the two images over each other to give an interesting effect. Even though the part of the "M" is fully illuminated with ghostly lighting, it is still obvious that it is from McDonalds, thus showing how accustomed we are to this particular fast food chain. :)
Black Hamburger- Michelle Nunes
So this is my photo for the theme fast food. I painted a hamburger (not from McDonalds) but from home black. Why? Well weirdly, when I read the theme this is the first thing that came into my head. I think because I was inspired by a picture of Chanel McDonald boxes:

I think that black adds a sense of elegance to the fast food, which usually is one of the least elegant foods we eat.

Savannah Onofrey - Fast Food
We no longer care about how fresh our food is, but how fast we can get it.
Because of our growing impatience and laziness fast food is dominating the
amount of fresh food we eat in our daily lives.
