Carrie Cai, Theme #1, Fast Food

no deep conceptual meaning to this. i love fast food, so i wanted to make this fun and inviting. i wouldn't mind if someone got me a big mac for my birthday (it's the thought that counts ;). i have more photos with fries and a drink that i will post maybe at a later time when i'm happy with the post on those, but this one is my favourite. all feedback is mucho appreciated and very welcomed! x

  1. this is so fun. everyone took a sort of dark and angry approach to this theme so it was refreshing to see someone who is pro fast food.

  2. Love the approach you took with this. Its very different from the rest, being an inviting and welcoming appeal to fast food rather than the others. I'm not sure if its just me, but I wonder what the image would look like if you could see the rest of the shadow?
    Great work regardless!

  3. This makes me want to have a cake made to look like a burger! I really like the lighting in this, I like how the shadow of the girl is a perfect silhouette, it's not broken at the edges and it looks really sharp. I agree with Steven, its really fun and different compared to everyone else's. Maybe even another photo of the burger close up would have also been cool?

  4. I agree with the other comments. :) The idea is good, the lighting works really well... Maybe have the candles clearer? Either by enhancing the colour of them, or having them lit, just to show what they are. At first I thought they were lines you drew i to make it look like the burger was steaming, so I would fix those. Other than that, I quite like it.

    1. the candles are actually lit! ahaha you can't tell with the thumbnail and the light background, but i did go as far to light them ;) but thanks! i'll definitely try and make them more clearer.

  5. HEY!
So apparently the other class can comment on each other's stuff so HI! I'm Jordynn from the other side...
As for my comment, I really love this idea and your unique approach to it. Maybe having a more colourful background; possibly with a pattern? and more colour in your model? might make it more "fun"

  6. LAAAVE IT! Looks clean and professional, very well executed. The shadow is awesome by the way, really draws me into the model and hamburger. I find the tilt of the models head overly endearing which totally works for a 'selling' standpoint. Next time I would play the the colour of the background, you could probably get away with a patterned backdrop which sounds RIDICULOUS, but could be a fun idea to play with.

  7. agreeing with all the other comments, I really enjoy how you took a positive view on the fast food concept rather then making it about how bad it is. i really like the sharpness in the shadow of your model as well. well done

  8. Tyler's 2 cents. It's basically perfect as is. I love the white, love the shadow (even that it's cut off). You could try to tripod your cam, take one frame with the lighting one and a second without it to expose for the lit candles and then just composite them together in post?

AND my only tiny nitpick. I want that plate to be a solid plastic yellow plate haha. The bend and twist of the paper plate ruins the super crisp cleanliness of it for me. Also the idea of a cheap plastic fun kids plate that this burger is one just seems to work so well in my mind with the image.

    Great work Carrie.

    1. thank you! i will definitely keep in mind that trick for getting candlelight, i'd imagine it would be perf. and LOL, i totally agree. one of my annoying phrases during the shoot was "show the plate!" so i could capture the yellow and make it more solid. :)

  9. This one stood out so far from what I saw so far, however, what came to my mind when looking at this was 60's 70's Diner feel, I love the concept, id try to do some thing more punchy with he colors that you have going. the shadow give the shot of a foreground, mid-ground and background, so it seems to work, id still try doing a traditional shot, (the clothes you are wearing reminded me of that.) it is a fun and cool take!
