Helen Piekoszewski - Theme #2. Exotic.

Hey kids. :)
I decided to look at this theme from the angle of what is exotic to me right now. Coming from Europe, having had the opportunity to travel a lot, and having gone to an international school, I've seen a lot of what would be considered exotic to people here. For me, living in this type of a city and experiencing a North American way of life is what I find new, different, strange, exciting, and well... exotic. :)

I did two different versions, one black and white and one just very de-saturated. I'm leaning towards the black and white one as my final image.

Let me know what you think!

  1. Black and White for sure! Makes the picture you are holding really stand out. I'm not too sure what it is which I guess what makes sense :P haha Good Job !

  3. I said a similar thing to Lyndsey as well, but I like the idea of doing something outside of the typical desaturated photo with one coloured object. In both of your cases the coloured object is completely relevant to the content of the photo. Plus the image that you're holding is really cool.

I think I like the second one more because in the first there is a shadow that is slightly apparent in both, but because the shadows in the first are more distinguished the shadow casting in the background on the left is a bit more distracting. I guess you could always lighten that up though.

There's also this idea in the second one that because you can still tell its coloured, but hardly, that it seems like the coloured image you're holding in front of your face has almost "sucked" the colour out of you, but not completely yet. You can interpret that however you like but it seems like the idea of being in a new place absorbs you into it and you become closer to that new place in a way?

I really like it! Awesome Helen! :)

  4. I like the idea behind this. But I'm having such a hard time deciding between the two photos. I like the black and white but I feel its a bit too dark compared to the colour one. Maybe if you made the black and white less contrasted, if possible. But other than that I like the idea. But I'm not exactly sure what the image is that you are holding in your hand though.

  5. The Desaturated for sure. The black and white is nice but I think that the colored image helps draw your eye away from the subject and allows you to examine the rest of the photo, in particular the color of your ring; which is the first thing outside the subject I am drawn to. I think the desaturated gives more to the eye and keeps the viewer looking.

I like your take on the theme and think you did a good job.
