Sydney Irvine - Exotic

  1. i really like this! The only thing I would have done would have been maybe to pull out on the crop to see the whole thing or to go in really close and just zoomed into the eyes? Maybe even a sequence would have been cool. I really like it though I like how the lighting is uneven gives an "exotic" feel :)

  2. I like this a lot. I think it is really interesting. But maybe you could go a little more with the lighting. Like make those unevenness come out a little bit more. And bring out the zoom like casey said. But other than that I love it!

  3. I like how the lighting compliments the wood in color and in shape, but I would like to see how it looks with different lighting. perhaps if you added a light source within the mask or if you had your light sources leave the eyes completely unlit and full of shadow.

I do see your dilemma with this mask, as it is very long and narrow, but I would try a few crops as casey was mentioning. You could also consider showing the mask's different features in individual frame and place them into a single image. Going in the other direction you could have a very distant crop with the subject being a smaller portion of the image to place emphasis on the negative space of the background.

I do like the beige of the background; it compliments the subject nicely.

  4. The crop is nice. I wish the lighting was a bit more even so the shadowing isn't filling in the other eye. I think you could have taken this a bit further, perhaps by getting someone to even wear the mask could be really interesting. Here's a cool Irving Penn example: http://susanreep.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/penn8.jpg

  5. I actually really like this crop! I also like how the mask isn't dead center. I also think that the background compliments the mask well, to me, it seems like there's a little gradient going on, and it's please to the eye. Well, to my eyes at least, haha

  6. I really like the crop also. I think that the idea of lighting it from the inside could be really cool with light shining through the eyes. And I really like the uneven lighting also.

  7. Sydney

Right now this just looks like a documentation shot someone would take of something to sell on Ebay. The image itself is not very interesting.
