James Morley, Theme #1, Fast Food

It's very likely that I am going to re-shoot this with more even lighting and a better arrangement of cigarettes and fries, but for now I'd like to hear what you guys think of the idea/concept, as well as any suggestions for the next version.

Overall, I was trying to draw a comparison between fast food and smoking. I stuffed his mouth with cigarettes and fries (due to their similarities in shape and size), so that at first glance the abnormally large volume of both quantities is evident. I wanted to use this to symbolize how the general public has been bombarded with fast food and smoking, to the point that they have pushed their way into our daily lives and become totally normal. The sort of 'ending idea' I wanted to portray is that while both items satisfy us for the time being, they ultimately result in our own deterioration.

  1. i love this! i actually think the lighting is perfect (though it'd be nice to see more even lighting, too), and the sharpness is perf. the composition and everything works well-- the square crop centres the focus on him and the fries/cigs. watch how you crop, though, because i think it's a little uneven (feels like there's more space on the right versus left). only other suggestion is to have maybe more cigarettes and fries in his mouth, poking out as evenly as possible since the cigs kind of dominate the fries in this one. but other than that, i truly do love this photo. well done x

  2. This is great! The left side of his face has some funky weird lighting, but I really like this image overall.

  3. I love this! The only suggestion I have is to possibly have more fries in his mouth like Carrie said. But other than that, great job!
