Well besides Alex being a stud model, I like the shot! ... wait sorry, I think the shot is working WELL(in the words of Alex Alter). I think it would look good with a bit of a tighter crop just so we can focus on his face a bit more as its a bit far. Also, on the top left hand corner-ish that wire thats there is kind of distracting, maybe try editing that out to see what it looks like without it! STEF
I actually really like the crop of it! It might need to just be viewed larger to see his face, because I wouldn't want to see anything really lost in the photo as it is (though I do agree with Stef - it would be nice to see his face a little more). I don't know - maybe crop in and post another version just to see what it looks like? Otherwise, I really like the sort of starkness of the scene, and the pop of colour in his outfit. The angle on the stairs is nice, though it could maybe be altered a little to get the pipe on the wall a little further from his face - right now I find it a little too close. All in all - nice portrait! - Helen
I do agree with Helen, this image should be left at the crop it is, just viewed on a larger scale.
I am not sure about the pipe... What education I have so far suggests that it should be eliminated (in post?) but as is, it doesn't really bother me. I guess I would have to see it without before I decide. I am just afraid that if it were not present in the image than there would be too much negative space.
Of course, your subject pops right off the image to direct attention, but you always have these great locations that keep people looking.
