Mithila Majithia: Theme #4 - Shame.

Hey everyone,

I was pretty stumped as what to shoot for shame originally but my awesome friend Jordynn from the other class told me I should maybe go for something personal that I felt strongly about.
Like most kids, I had a bit of a rebellious phase, but one of the things I remember most when I look back were the moments where I stopped, thought about what I was doing, and felt genuinely shameful that I was lying and hiding things from my parents.

So yeah, a little mushy on this one, but I hope you like it.

Also, I was stuck between doing it in color or black and white, but I felt like this just suited the mood of the photo.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

  1. I absolutely love how his face is in complete shadow and you can just see the silhouette of his face, I think it works really well for the image-creates a very good sense of shame. I think the light on his hat is a little bit too harsh though, so just tone that down in post if you can! I think it looks really good in black and white, but do you have it in colour? Im just curious to see what it looks like!

  2. I love this image. I would have to agree with Stef on her color comment, if you have it I would be keen on seeing it. But I do think that the image has a romantic quality to it because it is black and white.

You captured the smoke of the cigarette really well and the perspective of the shot is really nice. the sidewalk of the background leads your eye upward, after the subject has been viewed which adds a nice movement to the image.

I will also agree with the comment on the hat being too burned out, its the only thing that really needs to be touched up. The rest of the image is awesome.

  3. I agree with Stef! I really like how his face isn't in the light, it gives a mysterious feel to it!

I also really like how the smoke is blowing away from the face and not upward as usual. It drags my eye away and around.

  4. He looks so mysterious with his face blacked out. I really like that! As said, the smoke blowing in the opposite direction really leads my eye out.
    Great job!
