Well Hello There Again!
This was definitely a blast to shoot. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on it, as I'm pretty happy with it, but still desire to tweak it.
Cheers!
Behind The Scenes Note: I took the door off the bathroom to shoot (should probly remove the hinges in PS) and actually put it in the room as a bounce along with a silver reflector haha
I really like the use of the mirror to reflect light onto her face, it works really really nicely! I find the little green lights at her feet slightly distracting, as well as the sharp white highlight on the left side of the mirror (our right). I'm also curious to see what it would look like with the top of the door frame straightened out. Not sure if it would look better or not - but maybe post one version with it straightened just for comparison and to see what it would look like? Otherwise - nice shot! :)

a really beautiful photo. i like the composition, and i think it'd be fun to see one without the hinges because it would almost be an illusion (are we seeing through a door, or at a mirror? dun dun dunn).
ReplyDeletethere's a lot of good play with light, and it makes sense the parts that are lit and that aren't, but try adding some brightness to her legs in post, and remove the noise grain (maybe this is just a lo-fi jpeg though). there's also a pretty intense yellow-y green cast, so i suggest colour adjusting? (unless, obviously, it was your intention, but to me it just looks like a straight-out-of-camera photo with so much more potential).
hope that helps! also hoping to see more of these.. ;)

love it! I really love the light on her face and also the shadows around down by her feet. I agree that the little green dots are kind of distracting. Other than that I really like it

I have decided not to read comments already made, as they force me to limit what I want to say... as it would be irrelevant to restate a comment.
ReplyDeleteAs is this photo is fabulous, I have little to say about its improvement. The way you bring forward the idea of how icon affects us all and where it affects us the most. I think most of us can relate to the idea of looking in the mirror and comparing our own aesthetic to those of the iconic celebrity of modern society.
As for the door, I did not notice at first until reading the explanation that you had removed the door entirely. saying that, I can now see where the hinges were connected. I do think it would be more pleasing to the eye if the evidence was removed. I like the way the lighting was set up and the color isn't too distracting, you could play with it more. I would personally like to see if the color of the lighting varied in hue; the face, of course, left alone which can easily be done in post.
The makeup and such, in the background, was distracting at first but then the concept of icon came back to me and I realized that it worked well. Besides, the image might look to naked without it.

Wow, smart idea on using the mirror on reflecting light on her face! It adds to the photo and makes sense in context.
ReplyDeleteOverall a beautiful photo!
