So I got a cool opportunity to shoot a bunch of photos at this sketchy motel in Niagara Falls and decided to use the setting to my advantage when shooting this assignment. I wanted to incorporate the dingy exterior elements of the motel with the uncomfortable/uneasy demeanour of the subject. I have other photos that I've been playing around with so I may re-upload, but I'm happy with this one right now.
Cheers!
The lighting is ideal. Even the portion of the window that is a little burned out feels necessary in contrast with the shadows bordering the image and door. The color is fantastic, the gradation of blue and yellow is subtle and makes the image that much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favourite feature of the image is the detail in the reflection of the window. It adds a depth to the image and allows the viewer to see what the subject sees.

Wonderful use of location and subject. I adore how you can see the car in the reflection of the window. Lighting and colour palette is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI find the elements of the coke bottle and camera in the window sill slightly distracting. I think the bottle of whisky at the feet is fine just by itself.
I would be curious to see some interior shots with this idea as well. Obviously this was a specific location so I understand reshooting would be complicated, but I think it's important in a place like this to take a large variation of shots in different spaces.
Well done!
Love the over all colour tone to this image and location! I wish the subject was looking away from the camera though as Im drawn towards her face right away. I like meagans idea of some interior shots too, and as well as the coke bottle and camera I could do without!

Wow, I really love this photograph! I like how it's shot head on but I think there's still a little distortion there.
ReplyDeleteOverall, great image!

Agree with Meagan on bottle / camera. Everything is is so clean and integral to the image, those two things seem very placed there out of convenience while shooting instead of a natural element.
ReplyDeleteCould be a bit of fun photoshop work?
