Lyndsey I like your ideas (not that you should be ashamed of that) but I think if you did what you were trying to achieve with the streamers in post it would be a lot more effective and less distracting also try shooting yourself against a white or black background the couch throws me off a bit
I like how fun your image is. Its fun and its colorful.
I would have to disagree with comment on shooting with a white background. I think that this is becoming too common (I am just as guilty for doing so). I think that the couch definitely compliments the color of the blue and purple streamers and adds more visual interest. Also, your blouse is definitely complimented by the red streamer. The yellow streamer sort of pops from the rest.
Super fun! I would also disagree with the white/black background, though I do find the couch distracting. I'd love to see this on a coloured background - some sort of pastel pink, blue, purple, or green. One of those colours would keep the yellow popping - maybe try purple, seeing as it's a complementary colour. Also try getting the streamers to look like they're flying out of your mouth, as opposed to hanging out of your mouth. Try making them come out in straight lines. Not to say get rid of how they're sort of twisty, because that quality works, but see how the bottom three sort of hang there? Possibly attach them to whatever they're attached to outside of the frame a little more tightly. I also really like how the streamers are actually coming out of your mouth, and you might be at risk of losing that tactile quality if you do it in post. I also like how your mouth looks like it just can't handle them or keep them inside, adding to the effect of not being able to control the amount of talking you do, haha. :P
The solve your whole background issue. Yes the couch bisects the wall, however the colour of the couch is very wonderful! So I would use those colours next time as your 'seamless' background, as the purple compliments the bright yellow streamer at the top.
Be careful with placing that one blue streamer too close into the corner.
The shadow on your chin is correct, but the shadow that it places behind you on the wall is distracting. Just use something (like a white piece of paper) to bounce the light and fill the shadow in.
your posture is great in this! adds to the sense that you're being dragged along by your own, as you say, 'motormouth'. the colours all work well together, and i'm not bothered by the presence of the couch. i am a bit distracted by the dark fade off to the right, i think it makes that side of the image feel too heavy. i also feel as though you could've pulled back a bit...but i have the same issue, allllll the time. -claire
Ahaha, this is funny! I really like the colours and I agree with Helen. Maybe you could try shooting this on a coloured background? But all in all, I love this idea. I can relate to it too, :D
Love this idea! I like all the suggestions in terms of background and couch etc but I'd go a different way with it. Why not pull back and have you sitting on the couch at one end and another person at the other end getting totally covered in streamers! You could mix and match doing some of the more flying bits in post with some coverage of the person in camera.
I like the sense of this being a moment in reality that is tweaked slightly with the presence of the streamers, so keeping the couch and adding in the element of a conversation seems like it could keep that and resolve all the issues everyone else brought up :)

Well done.
I really love this image,
ReplyDeleteThe metaphor of the ribbon is great because ribbons keep on unraveling kind of like words when we talk, so it all works.
I would probably have to agree with the couch being in the background. I would like to see you behind a white background.
